The Boardwalk
Azalea Cascade is located at the end of the easiest trail at DeSoto State Park, The Boardwalk. We stopped by the DeSoto State Park Country Store and picked up a few trail maps before we started our adventure.
Azalea Cascade
We started our afternoon hiking The Boardwalk trail to see Azalea Cascade. The parking for this trailhead is the second trailhead parking area just past the Country Store where we picked up the maps. This trail is perfect for the entire family. It is a boardwalk all the way to the base of Azalea Cascade.
On the way to Azalea Cascade, we passed a gazebo that sits above a creek. The sound of the water provided a peaceful and relaxing environment to stop relax or enjoy a picnic.
A short stroll later, we came upon the base of Azalea Cascade. here, you can sit on the benches, enjoy the view and turn around to head back to the parking area or you can continue a short hike around a loop that takes you up and over the stream that creates Azalea Cascade.
If you choose to continue your hike to complete the loop, the worst part is straight ahead. The soil around the stairs up the hillside have eroded and create a more challenging climb. Once you get to the top, it’s pretty smooth sailing from there.
You’ll follow the red/blue trail marker for this portion of the hike. The red paint is faded, but it’s there if you look closely. Once you cross the bridge over the water, you’ll switch to the red only trail markers. Just stay on the trail by the water and you’ll make it back to the boardwalk.
Once we returned to the boardwalk, we enjoyed the view and our easy stroll back to the parking area.
