2023 Mentone Fall Fun
Fall is always an exciting time in Mentone with the crisp air and ever changing beauty of the foliage. This is not all this time of year has to offer though. There are musical events, fall festivals and unique adventures available as well. Here are a few things going on this fall.
2023 Boom Days
September 15-16, 2023
Come enjoy great music and a little history in downtown Fort Payne, a short 20 minute drive from Lazy River Cottage. Boom Days is a celebration of Fort Payne dating back to the late 1880’s when they became an industrial Boom Town for coal and iron. Boom Days Heritage Celebration honors Fort Payne’s rich cultural past with events that tie the history to the present, great historical artifacts and clothing at the Fort Payne Depot Museum, a miniatures railroad system in the original office of the Coal and Iron Company, and music covering all musical genres. City Park has a children’s area, artist demonstrations, a wine tasting, and you might find the Mayor and First Lady of Fort Payne dressed up in period clothing of the Boom Days era. Boom Days begins on the third Friday of September each year and runs through Saturday ending with musical acts at the Rotary Pavilion. They bring in some big names for entertainment for this one too!
Mentone Fall Festival
Saturday, October 21, 2023
This is the first year for Mentone's Fall Festival. It will be replacing Colorfest. There will be plenty of arts and crafts vendors, food and entertainment for all ages to enjoy and will take place at the historic Moon Lake Elementary School built in 1928, now known as Moon Lake Village. Admission to the festival is free. Parking is $5 per vehicle. All proceeds from this event will be used to help restore the old school building and bring it back to its former glory. Sounds like a fun day!

Scenery and Landscape
We can't leave off the one thing we all love about Mentone in the fall, it's ever changing scenery and landscape. Enjoy a drive down Scenic Drive ( County Road 89) then through DeSoto State Park and take the short drive to Little River Canyon National Preserve. These are always favorites. There are numerous family friendly hiking trails and endless outdoor fun! Check out a blog post about some of our favorite hikes and outdoor fun here.
