Lodge Falls Hike
If you find yourself visiting DeSoto State Park Lodge, be sure to take a few minutes to see a hidden treasure just behind the lodge‘s hotel rooms. A short walk through an opening in the tree line takes you to Lodge Falls. The trail to Lodge Falls is not marked, but it is relatively easy to get to from the DeSoto State Park Lodge parking lot. To start your adventure, you’ll walk between the lodge‘s main entrance on your right and the lodge rooms on your left. Head around behind the rooms, down the stairs, and toward the tree line.
After walking behind the lodge rooms on your left, just beyond the grassy area you’ll see a tree line. Walk through the opening in the tree line seen in the picture above. You’ll know you are in the right spot when you can see the edge of the bridge just beyond the opening. This bridge crosses the steam that leads to Lodge Falls.
After crossing the bridge, you’ll see the sign that points to the bottom of the falls. This adventure is not for everyone, but very doable for those with good knees. The steps to the bottom are tall. Those of us with short legs will have a harder time getting down and back up. It’s not exhausting at all, in fact it’s a pretty short staircase. The challenge here is the very tall rise of the steps.
Once you get to the bottom of the staircase, the view is pretty and very much worth the short walk from the parking lot. Next time you’re in this area of DeSoto State Park, take a few minutes and do a little exploring of this hidden gem.
